Hello neighbors.

As I officially celebrate 100 days in office, I am excited to share some important updates!

May is fewer potholes month

Together with the SF Department of Public Works and the Richmond District Blog, we

are launching a “fewer potholes project” on May 1. For three weeks, from

May 1 to May 21, we are inviting the community to report any and all potholes – just

take a photo and tell us where it is. Public Works will send a

team in June dedicated just to District 1. Visit the website, starting May 1, at

Join us at our annual Richmond Community Health Festival, along with Assembly –

member Phil Ting and our community partners, on Saturday,

May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Richmond Recreation Center,

Commendations

This month, we honored San Francisco libraries and librarians. During National Library

Week, I recognized Clare Watsky, a Richmond resident and awesome teacher librarian,

who has worked in our public school libraries for two decades. I was also delighted

to honor the Anza Branch Library as it celebrated its 85th anniversary.

Thanks to Regan Gong and Terry Carlson for their work and for representing the library.

In the neighborhood

This past month has been full of strengthening relationships and working to address

community concerns. I met with neighbors from 25th Avenue about the ongoing

construction, and brought city departments that could directly respond to their

concerns. I hosted a community meeting about a pending liquor license with

concerned neighbors, the restaurant owner and relevant city entities to clarify

the process and answer questions. And to explain the plan to blend groundwater

with our tap water, Public Utilities Commission staff joined me and

constituents at my Sunday office hours.

I also celebrated the 90th birthdays of vibrant seniors at Self-Help for the Elderly, and

met with parents at Gum Moon/Asian Women’s Resource Center. I joined Comcast Cares

Day at Sutro Elementary School for the painting of an Asian Pacific

American Heritage mural, and spoke on a University of San Francisco panel about

refugee and immigrant rights.

It was great to join the Best Buddies Friendship Walk in Golden Gate Park to raise

awareness of inclusion. I visited the Jackie Chan Senior Center and

Golden Gate Village, and I both walked to work and rolled to school at

Lafayette Elementary School. Our office hosted a meeting for the Golden Gate

Park dog park renovation and organized two city budget forums

to educate residents on the $10 billion city budget. Needless to

say, it has been a full and lovely month.

Budget and legislative updates

●  May 3, 10 a.m.: Hearing on the city’s Language Access Ordinance. Location: City Hall,

Room 263. We will hear from city departments about improvinglanguage access

for limited English proficient residents. For more information, please contact

●  May 10, 10:30 a.m.: Hearing on the city’s Small Sites Acquisition Program.

Location: City Hall, Room 263. Learn about the city program to acquire

small sites for affordable housing development. For more information,

●  Pending: Hearing on litter and waste. The hearing was

postponed and we are working to identify a new date. For more information,

contact Chelsea at (415) 554-7413.

I am proud to have called for two reports this month:

1)        Municipal banking: Our banking institutions should serve

our City in a sustainable and ethical manner. Motivated by the

unethical behavior of corporate banks, I called for a report on

municipal banking options. I look forward to sharing its next

steps;

2)        Improved emergency water supply system for western San

Francisco: On the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake, I called for

a report examining the proposed emergency water supply system

for western San Francisco, to ensure that our neighborhood is

protected during a major fire. Stay tuned.
