Historical Photos: Ahead of the Curve

Today, the curve along Sloat Boulevard near 39th Avenue is lined with quintessential Sunset stucco homes. In 1938, this broad street hosted the Market Street Railway 12-line streetcar and is the reason why we have a large median today. A few scattered homes on 40th Avenue can be seen in the distant right, a prelude to the homes yet to come. Photo courtesy of a private collector/Western Neighborhoods Project/OpenSFHistory.
