Eleven FUF trees planted a month ago on 22nd Ave. between Geary and Anza are turning into kindling. Most are dying due to lack of City & FUF watering them. I was so excited when the planting occurred, now disgusted. As an avid gardener, I’m watching these parched trees die before my eyes. None are on the property where I live. Such a waste of money, and utter lack of care.

The trees that are sponsored through FUF are supposed to be taken care of by the sponsors. In some cases FUF will water them for the first 6 mos. DPW is supposed to water all the other saplings and the watering truck used to come to my block of La Playa St. but that stopped over two years ago. Since then I’ve been carrying buckets of water across the street for the one surviving sapling of the six that were planted in that half block.

I hope the irony of the plastic (soon to be microplastic) labels still thriving around the trees on three sides will not be lost on people!
