Editor:
A couple years ago, your papers did a story highlighting a little girl in the Richmond District who, at 4 years old, started a drive to get a rainbow painted on the north side of the Robin Williams Tunnel to match the south entrance.
Well, Sarah’s now 6, and … it’s Pride … and it’s about time this small job gets done. It’s really a matter of getting Sarah’s idea on the radar of the Caltrans Art Commission, which does transportation art like this all the time but, for some reason, finishing the Robin Williams Tunnel rainbow has fallen through the cracks. It has been 53 years since the project was started and we’re trying to complete it for Sarah and all the children who’ve asked, “Why isn’t there a rainbow on both sides?”
In the spirit of the successful change.org petition that got the tunnel renamed for Robin back in 2014, we’ve put up a new change.org petition to get the attention of our district’s art commission member to get this thing done.
I’d love it if you could put this out to your readers. We know there’s support for this; it’s a no-brainer. We just need to let people know that the petition is out there, we know whom to put this in front of and we have the funds available – we just need to show Caltrans that, yes, we want it.
