Police Blotter: Sunset District, August 2023

Suspicious Acts: 100 Block of West Portal Avenue, June 28, 5:20 p.m.

Two victims were walking past the suspect, who had just kicked a metal pole on the sidewalk. The suspect then asked the victims if they thought he was funny and followed them demanding that they answer him. 

The victims fled into a nearby bookstore and the owner closed the door on the suspect. The suspect later walked away. 

Battery: Judah Street and Ninth Avenue, June 30, 1:13 p.m.

The witness said they had been trying to break up an altercation on a Muni bus when the suspect, a juvenile, slapped the victim and exited the bus. The suspect then grabbed a nearby broom and tried to stick the broom handle into the bus where the victim was sitting. 

Assault: La Playa Street and Lincoln Way, July 1, 12:22 p.m.

The victim said they were walking out of a gas station when the suspect pulled in and almost hit the victim. The victim and suspect then engaged in a verbal dispute before the suspect walked to the trunk of their vehicle and removed a firearm.  

The victim got into their vehicle and started to drive away when the suspect pointed the firearm at the victim. 

Responding officers detained the suspect and after further investigation, the suspect was arrested.  

Robbery: 300 Block of Lawton Street, July 6, 1:08 p.m.

The victim, a USPS carrier, reported that they had been working and delivering mail when a suspect suddenly ran up to them and forcefully took the victim’s scanner and keys. 

The suspect then ran to a nearby vehicle that was waiting and immediately fled the area.  

Burglary: 1700 Block of 32nd Avenue, July 11, 9:47 a.m.

The witness reported that they observed the suspect breaking into a nearby home and also possibly climbing over backyard fences. 

Responding officers set up a perimeter and detained the suspect while they were exiting the building. 

The witness then confirmed that the suspect was the one they had observed earlier and after further investigation, the suspect was arrested. 

Attempted Shoplifting, Battery: 700 Block of Taraval Street, July 13, 9:13 p.m.

The victim reported that four suspects were observed attempting to steal items from a store. The victim attempted to admonish the suspects, but one of the suspects tackled the victim to the floor and punched him. 

Responding officers arrived and detained one of the suspects. The suspect was cited. 

Assault: 1200 Block of Funston Avenue, July 15, 10:24 p.m.

The victim told responding officers they were walking when the suspect approached and cut the victim’s neck. 

The officers located the suspect and detained them without incident. A search also located a knife in the suspect’s possession. 

A computer check revealed an arrest warrant. The suspect was arrested.

Indecent Exposure: 1700 Santiago St., July 16, 9:38 a.m.

The victim reported they were walking when the suspect’s vehicle pulled up next to them and the suspect was observed masturbating. 

Responding officers arrived at the location and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed before getting into a vehicle collision. 

Case inspectors advised officers that there was a history of multiple incidents with the same suspect. 

Robbery: 21st Avenue and Irving Street, July 22, 3:57 p.m.

The victim said they had just entered their vehicle and were about to drive away when the suspect approached and broke the vehicle’s window before grabbing the victim’s purse. 

After a brief struggle, the suspect fled with the purse.
