On Saturday, May 4, the Sunset Chinese Cultural District (SCCD), in partnership with District 4 Youth and Families Network and Wah Mei, hosted a community fair on 22nd Avenue at Taraval Street.
According to a press release from SCCD, the event coincided with API Heritage Month and included the announcement of two new resources for the Sunset District: A resource guide of Sunset-based community services and the unveiling of a community mural titled “People of Taraval.”
The resource guide, led by the District 4 Youth and Families Network, is a bilingual digital resource of community services for Sunset residents. It is the continuation of their work on the Sunset Forward Community Needs Assessment. This resource can be accessed on SCCD’s website, at sfsccd.org.
“People of Taraval” is a community-driven mural led by the SCCD. More than 1,000 residents, merchants and visitors of the Taraval commercial corridor provided feedback on the question, “What does safety mean to you?”
Local artists Elaine Chu and Marina Perez-Wong of Twin Walls Mural Company incorporated the feedback, which resulted in a colorful design reflecting Parkside community values.
