Police Blotter: Sunset District

Robbery: 1400 Block of Seventh Avenue, Aug. 2, 7:35 p.m.

The victim was drying his vehicle when two suspects approached him. One of the suspects pointed a knife at him while the other brandished what looked like the handle of a gun. One of the suspects demanded the victim’s property. The suspects took the victim’s property and fled the scene.

Robbery: 1300 Block of 10th Avenue, Aug. 3, 8:09 p.m.

The victim was in a shared apartment garage working on a bicycle when the suspect entered the garage from the back yard armed with a metal pry bar and demanded the victim’s bicycle. 

After taking a bicycle and while still brandishing the pry bar, the suspect demanded the victim’s property from his pockets. 

The suspect fled the scene with stolen property. 

The victim was able to track his stolen cell phone and Taraval units took the suspect into custody near 19th Avenue and Irving Street.

Robbery of a Commercial Building: 900 Block of Ulloa Street, Aug. 3, 7:48 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, an Estes robbery (violence against a security officer) occurred in the 200 block of West Portal Avenue. Officers determined that an unknown white male suspect had stolen merchandise and used force against a security guard attempting to stop him. 

Video footage from the store showed the suspect pushing the store guard. 

Two days later, the officers were on patrol and saw the suspect. The suspect was detained and arrested.

Vandalism to Property, Outstanding Warrant: 200 Block of West Portal Avenue, Aug. 4, 6:09 p.m.

The suspect was seen carrying a wrench and acting erratically. The suspect proceeded to damage five vehicles and a store window. 

The suspect was located and arrested.

Robbery: 2700 Block of 39th Avenue, Aug. 4, 4:08 a.m.

The victim advertised selling his cell phone online. 

Two suspects came to look at the phone. The suspects fled the scene with the phone in a vehicle. 

The victim tried to get it back through the vehicle’s open window. The victim was dragged.

Attempted Burglary, Possession of a Firearm: 300 Block of West Portal Avenue, Aug. 9, 3:06 a.m.

Officers were on patrol when they noticed two vehicles parked next to a business. 

As the officers approached the vehicles, four or five suspects ran to and entered the vehicles, then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. 

One of the vehicles ran over a curb and damaged the wheels causing them to go flat. 

The suspect exited the vehicle and fled the scene, but officers were able to catch and detain three suspects. 

A firearm was later located.  

Other suspects fled the area. The three suspects were arrested.

Robbery: 2500 Block of Sloat Boulevard, Aug. 12, 6:49 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery. 

The suspect had just robbed a business with a hammer and was fleeing in a vehicle. 

Officers located the suspect in the vehicle and initiated a pursuit of the vehicle. 

The vehicle failed to stop and crashed into another vehicle. The suspect was detained. 

Officers also learned the same suspect had robbed another business in the central police district earlier in the day. 

The suspect was arrested.

Vandalism, Outstanding Warrant: 18th Avenue and Lincoln Way, Aug. 19, 6:36 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a suspect vandalizing an autonomous vehicle. 

A witness observed the suspect using a metal bat to hit the vehicle and smashing the windshield.  

The suspect was located and arrested.

Robbery: 1900 Block of 19th Avenue, Aug. 21, 9:22 a.m.

Four juvenile suspects walked into a store. The victim, an employee, recognized them from a prior shoplifting incident. 

The suspects were angry that the victim was following them and threw merchandise at him, causing injury. 

The suspects took merchandise and fled the scene.

Brandishing a Weapon: 2200 Block of the Great Highway, Aug. 24, 11:51 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a neighbor threatening another neighbor with a crowbar. Officers detained the suspect. 

After further investigation, the suspect was cited.

Battery: 14th Avenue and Quintara Street, Aug. 25, 9:55 p.m.

The suspect had boarded a Muni bus and was upset that it was not going downtown. 

The suspect became irate and discharged pepper spray at the bus driver. 

The suspect fled the scene.

Threats, Vandalism: 22nd Avenue and Taraval Street, Aug. 26, 11:41 a.m.

The victim, an employee from the SF Recreation and Park Department came to the SFPD Taraval Station to report juvenile suspects harassing him. 

The victim, a city gardener, was working at McCoppin Park. The victim saw a group of teenagers sitting in the park and doing drugs. The victim told the suspects to leave and to pick up the trash. The suspects started cursing at the victim and threatened to have him harmed. 

The victim took out his phone and began taking photos. The suspect smacked his phone causing the phone to break. 

Officers arrived and detained the suspects. The suspect was later arrested and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.

Assault: 100 Block of West Portal Avenue, Aug. 26, 2:30 p.m.

The victim told responding officers he saw the suspect earlier in the area collecting cardboard. The victim suddenly felt something striking his head. The victim saw the suspect dropping a wooden sign. 

Officers located the suspect and arrested her.
