Letter to the Editor: No Reason to Vote for Trump

Editor:

Ten or 15 years ago, it would have been inconceivable that a felon who sexually abused a woman could run for president. A person who said that Hitler had some good ideas, that immigrants poison the blood of the country and that the opposing political party is the “enemy within” would have had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. The public would not have tolerated that behavior from a candidate.

Those who remember Trump’s presidency fondly must have amnesia about 2020. Everything was closed for most of that year. People could not go to work.  They could not send their kids to school. In April 2020, unemployment was 14.7%.  A million people died from COVID-19.  While this was happening, Trump told the public, in essence, to ignore it and it would just go away. He joked about injecting bleach.

2020 was an awful year.  Not just because of COVID-19, but because of the rioting and division in the country after George Floyd was killed.  Trump, in usual fashion, blamed the democrats and refused to take responsibility for either problem.

Looking forward, he proposes tariffs across the board for imported products – and almost everything is imported these days.  If you put a 10% tariff on a $1,000 refrigerator, it becomes an $1,100 refrigerator and you pay the tariff.

There is no reason to vote for this man that is based on reality, facts, or reason. It is pure tribalism, us versus them, our team is better than your team.

A sad time in the history of our country.

Scott Kiddy
