Above: This is the view looking west on Lincoln Way at 41st Avenue on March 8, 1912. A train waiting station and Golden Gate Park are on the right. Photo courtesy of a private collector/Western Neighborhoods Project/OpenSFHistory.
Below: The view on New Year’s Day 2025 shows a fully mature group of trees in Golden Gate Park and a seemingly endless stream of cars on Lincoln Way. Houses and aprtments now line the south side of Lincoln. Chain of Lakes Drive on the right is an entrance into the park and is part of the City’s 49-Mile Scenic Drive. Photo by Michael Durand.

  1. This corner will become even busier once the Upper Great Highway is closed to cars during the week, funneling much of that traffic (17,000+ cars a day) into Golden Gate Park. As far as I know, there are no current plans to protect Golden Gate Park from the increase in traffic.
