Press Release: SFMTA’s Accessibility Needs Survey Closes Jan. 15

The SFMTA’s Accessibility Needs Survey Closing Soon: Share Your Voice by Jan. 15

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is calling on community members to participate in the Accessibility Needs Survey before the Jan. 15, deadline. This survey aims to gather impactful insights from San Francisco transit riders about their experiences and accessibility needs.

San Francisco is home to an estimated 187,000 adults aged 60 and older and 38,000 adults between the ages of 18-64 have a disability. Almost two-thirds of the disabled population is of color, making accessibility improvements a vital equity issue. Together, these two groups represent about 25% of the city’s population.

The Accessibility Needs Survey is a vital step in helping the SFMTA prioritize improvements and projects that enhance accessibility in the entire transportation system over the next five years. This will impact the almost 500,000 daily riders who depend on the SFMTA as their main source of transportation to stay connected with family, friends and their community.

Community members are invited to complete the Accessibility Needs Survey online now through Wednesday, Jan. 15 here. The Accessibility survey is available online in nine languages with a telephone option available for residents in need of assistance – 311.

San Francisco’s Muni system, which includes buses and light-rail is experiencing a significant rebound in ridership. Recently, the combined system exceeded 500,000 average daily boardings for the first time since the onset of COVID-19. Trips provided by Muni’s paratransit system, SF Paratransit, are also growing. Paratransit rides increased 42% from Fiscal Year 2021 to Fiscal Year 2024.

AN EQUITY-FIRST AGENCY

“The Muni ridership rebound illustrates just how critical our services, including paratransit services, are to San Franciscans, especially as the city recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Erin McAuliff, SFMTA interim director of accessible services. “We are always looking to improve, and the Accessibility Survey is a crucial way for San Franciscans to tell us how we can serve them better.”

Community members are invited to complete The Accessibility Needs Survey online now through Wednesday, Jan. 15.
