CAR, TRUCK AND MOTORCYCLE SHOW

George Washington High School (GWHS) Auto Shop’s fourth annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show takes place on the beautiful GWHS campus on Saturday, April 12. Vehicle registrants may sign up at https://tinyurl.com/GWHSCarShowReg to register their vehicle, $40 in advance or $45 day-of. Attendance is free for spectators. There will be music, food, raffle prizes and prizes for best vehicles in various categories. Gates open 10 a.m. and the show wraps at 3 p.m. All proceeds benefit GWHS’s auto shop program, providing automotive technology training for the future generation of mechanics and technicians. GWHS is the only public SF high school with such a program.

CLEMENT STREET ART WALK

Clement Street Art Walk is a monthly community evening event bringing local art to the small businesses on Clement Street. COOKING DEMO

Chai time with Shanta at Other Avenues at 3930 Judah St. (at 44th Avenue), April 12, 1-2 p.m. This event will start with a demonstration of how to prepare two types of chutneys followed by a discussion on herbs and spices going into these Indian condiments. The chutneys will be served with crackers, papadams (Indian GF crackers) and homemade chai. Printed recipes will be provided, and each participant will take home a jar of chutney at the end (valued at $8.99). Felton’s Tech Squad is providing free basic tech support for older adults and people with disabilities in the Richmond District. “Jewish Chorus of San Francisco.” Join us for a special presentation by the Zingeray ensemble of the Jewish Folk Chorus of San Francisco, still singing strong in its 99th year! We will be treated to many songs in Yiddish, with a few in Ladino, Hebrew and English as well. We’ll all be encouraged to sing along and joyfully raise our voices. Though the Jewish FolkChorus repertoire includes songs on many themes, it stays true to its roots in the labor movement by preserving and performing works from a library of Yiddish labor songs and songs of peace. “Read Together, Silent Book Club.” Bring any book (fiction or nonfiction) for a period of silent reading followed by a discussion when you share what you are reading with others. The club meets every other Wednesday. April 2, 16 and 30, 3-5 p.m.

Ramos will discuss the photographs in the book, which capture the extraordinary ordinariness of San Franciscans of all ages, backgrounds and life paths during one of the City’s most iconic eras. She will also talk about her life, career and distinctive artistic point of view, in which her respect for her subjects and her fine-tuned eye allow the City and its people to reveal their secret stories. FREE WALKING GROUP FOR SENIORS

Join the friendly San Francisco 55+ Neighborhood Walks. These free walks are leisurely, not vigorous and accommodating for seniors with various walking abilities. To sign up, go to meetup.com/sf-55-neighborhood-walking-groups/. You can see who else is walking. You are also welcome if you just show up in person. The walks meet weekly, except when it rains and sometimes on holidays – check the Meetup link for the latest updates. The walks vary from one hour to two hours and you can leave at any time.

• Tuesday walks start at noon at Angelina’s Cafe, 6000 California St., at 22nd Avenue in the Richmond District and goes to Lands End and back.

• Friday walks start at 10 a.m. in front of the Forest Hill Club House at 391 Magellan St. and tours that beautiful neighborhood.

• Sunday walks start at 1 p.m. at Java Beach by the Zoo at 2650 Sloat Blvd. in the Outer Sunset and goes along the Upper Great Highway from Sloat Boulevard to Judah Street and back. Dogs are allowed at the Ocean Beach walk.

Every walk is located where there is a public bathroom either at the starting place or on the route.

FREE WALKING GROUP FOR SENIORS – NEW

Join a beautiful and healthy walk for seniors at Mountain Lake Park every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. It is FREE and fun! To get to Mountain Lake Park, go to 12th Avenue and Lake Street. Walk north on the short segment of 12th Avenue and enter the park. There is a sign that says Mountain Lake Park. Inside the park, walk west (turning left) past the playground where you will see restrooms and a drinking fountain. We meet at the seating area there at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Rain cancels the walk. HSARTS EXPANDS TO ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

San Francisco High School of the Arts (HSArts) is excited to introduce San Francisco Arts and Science Academy (ASA), a new elementary school opening in fall 2025. Located at Star of the Sea campus (350 Ninth Ave.) in the Inner Richmond, ASA will launch with a K-2 bilingual English-Chinese program emphasizing arts, language, math and science. JESSICA DUNNE – EVOLUTION OF PLACE

Local artist Jessica Dunne is having a solo show at Santa Clara University’s palatial Art and History Gallery through April 17. The show features large paintings of her ever-changing Sunset District surroundings with work both past and present. The reception and artist talk is on April 9, 5-7pm. LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM

The San Francisco Long-Term Care Ombudsman program offers free, confidential support to address issues raised by residents in long-term care facilities and free training opportunities for those interested in becoming volunteer ombudsmen. ONE HARD THING” VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to help seniors in the Richmond District on Saturday April 12. One Hard Thing is a program by the Richmond Senior Centers to help seniors and people with disabilities complete needed tasks in their home. We send up to four dedicated volunteers to a client’s house to assist with a specific task for 1.5 hours. Our volunteers are ready to help with a variety of tasks, including:

• Gardening/Weeding: Keeping your garden neat and tidy.

• Organizing/Decluttering: Creating a more organized and clutter-free space.

• Changing smoke alarm batteries or lightbulbs: Ensuring your home is safe and well-lit.

• Cleaning Hard-to-Reach Places: Making sure every corner of your home is spotless.

Sunset Mercantile’s first brick and mortar location is an incubating platform for local merchants and makers.
