Food of Infinity

Recipes are without end

autumn pear salsa

tawny roasted pheasants

duck breasts in lingonberries and red wine

like songs, like the limitless

arrangements of musical notes

there’s no end to the combinations

of foods

of tastes

the palette of gastronomic colors

could not be assayed in a

lifetime, ten lifetimes

or a hundred

the foods are endless, beyond

counting, beyond imagining

what then of the recipes? the

universe could not contain them

yet they fill up nothing

hardly the minutest

quantity of space

is encumbered by them;

a bunch of old cards

in a kitchen drawer.
