Letter to the Editor: Engardio Caused Damage to the Sunset

Editor:

I grew up near West Portal and went to school in the Sunset, where most of my friends grew up, with some families going back to the beginnings of the Sunset. By the way, our neighborhoods were NEVER called the west side as if we didn’t belong. We ARE the city, just like the densified ‘neighborhoods’ across town. Just to set the record straight.

My purpose with this letter is to make people, especially voters, aware of the damage Engardio has caused to the Sunset District that he was SUPPOSED to be looking out for. He got elected because he’s a liar and said he’d work for compromise to help keep the beloved Great Highway open at least part of the time. Then, he either changed his fickle mind or he outright lied to his constituents. All we know is we lost access to the Great Highway which has tripled traffic time for most of those in the neighborhood. This is not looking out for your constituency, and Engardio was one of the biggest opponents of the Great Highway. Engardio wants to take away the best of his new home, San Francisco, and turn it into his fantasy. People LIVE here and have lived here for years.

I keep seeing the “West Side” referred to as the quiet, suburban outback, and largely ignored. Well, that’s not an accurate description for the many people who live there. As a matter of fact, it’s an insult. Are we the quiet neighborhood when Stern Grove has its expanded Sunday concerts?

My point: Engardio doesn’t just dislike the Sunset, he has proven disdain for the neighborhood. And, there is the reason he should be recalled.

Sincerely, looking out for the City,

Corinne Charlton Barbour
