Police Blotter: Sunset District

Battery: 1200 Block of Ninth Avenue, Aug. 1, 9:04 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a battery.

The victim told officers that the suspect kept coming into the store to use the bathroom. The suspect was under the influence and was aggressive. The victim tried to de-escalate the incident, but the suspect suddenly punched the victim a few times.

The suspect was still on the scene and was cited.

Arson, Vandalism: 2600 Block of 28th Avenue, Aug. 2, 10:34 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a fire.

The officers located a burnt spot inside a play structure. Park rangers responded and will work with the arson task force to investigate the incident.

Evading Police: 19th Avenue and Vicente Street, Aug. 4, 5:23 a.m.

Officers were on patrol when they observed a vehicle failing to stop at a red light. The vehicle almost broadsided the officer’s vehicle.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Later in the morning, the officer received information that the wanted car was located abandoned in the middle of the street.

The vehicle was towed.

Battery: 1700 Block of 39th Avenue, Aug. 5, 9:23 p.m.

A witness told an officer that she and the suspect had argued over loud music playing. During the argument, the witness’s boyfriend came over to defend the witness and pushed the suspect. Both parties became involved in a physical altercation.

After further investigation, both parties were cited.

Assault, Vandalism: Taraval Street and 15th Avenue, Aug. 8, 6:20 p.m.

The victim was riding his bicycle when he accidentally brushed the side mirror of a vehicle.

The suspect in the vehicle turned around, got out of the vehicle and swung a weapon at the victim, but missed. The suspect hit the victim’s bicycle tires, causing damage.

The suspect left the scene.

Robbery: Great Highway and 48th Avenue, Aug. 9, 6:16 p.m.

The victim told officers he was walking when the suspect approached him from behind and attempted to grab his cellphone. The victim was able to hold onto his cellphone.

The suspect brandished a knife and knocked the cellphone out of his hand. The cellphone fell onto the ground, and the suspect grabbed the phone and fled the scene.

Robbery: Irving Street and 10th Avenue, Aug. 12, 10:35 p.m.

The victim just finished work and was walking to her car when a suspect approached her, pulled out a handgun and demanded money.

The suspect left the scene with the victim’s property.

Outstanding Warrant, Traffic Violation: 18th Avenue and Moraga Street, Aug. 13, 1:16 a.m.

Officers were on patrol when they observed a vehicle with no front or rear license plates.

The officers conducted a traffic stop, and a computer check revealed the driver had two warrants for his arrest.

The driver was arrested.

Burglary, Outstanding Warrant: 1800 Block of 26th Avenue, Aug. 19, 2:08 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress.

Officers met with the victim and broadcast the two suspects’ description. When officers searched the area, they located the suspects and detained them.

After further investigation, the two suspects were arrested.

Battery: 4700 Block of Irving Street, Aug. 22, 3:15 p.m.

The victim reported that he was sleeping on the sidewalk when the suspect, a friend, sprayed him in the face with pepper spray.

The suspect ran back into his residence.

Battery: Judah Street and 23rd Avenue, Aug. 28, 5:18 p.m.

The victim exited a Muni vehicle and saw a suspect arguing with an elderly female of unknown identity. The victim admitted to having touched the suspect’s chest with his palm to separate the two from the argument.

The suspect started walking away, and the victim called him an “idiot.” The suspect walked back, grabbed the victim’s neck and pushed him against a wall. The victim pushed back, and the suspect let go, got into a vehicle and left the scene.

Battery, Vandalism: Ulloa Street and 33rd Avenue, Aug. 28, 6:24 p.m.

The victim was driving and said the sun was in his eyes when he passed someone standing at the crosswalk. The suspect was angry that the driver didn’t stop for him and started yelling at him. The suspect threw his scooter at his vehicle, causing a dent.

The victim got out of his vehicle, and the suspect punched the victim in the face.

The suspect got back on his scooter and rode away.

Robbery: 2100 Block of 24th Avenue, Aug. 28, 1:23 p.m.

The victim, a student, told officers that he was robbed at school. The victim told the officers that two suspects approached him and attempted to take his property. The victim resisted, and the suspects used a weapon and hit the victim until he gave up his property.

The suspects left the scene.

Vandalism, Battery: 1600 Block of 39th Avenue, Aug. 29, 7:40 p.m.

The victim told officers that two suspects from a group of juveniles were throwing eggs at his house, causing damage. When the victim went outside to confront them, the suspects ran away.

Later, they returned, and when the victim again went out to confront them, he was pepper-sprayed.

Officers later learned that the suspects had also egged several other homes in the area.
