From Shanta Nimbark Sacharoff and Shalini Desroches:
NOT YOUR AVERAGE FARMERS MARKET!
THE OUTER SUNSET FARMERS MARKET IS HOSTING DIWALI: FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS.
Sunset Mercantile’s Outer Sunset Farmers Market and Mercantile is a weekly event in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset District celebrating farmers, local vendors and artisans. Founded on the principles of community, culture and commerce, the market offers a diverse selection of fresh produce, artisanal goods and cultural experiences. With a focus on supporting small businesses and fostering community connections, the market has become a beloved destination for residents and visitors alike.
With more than 60 vendors, you can find seasonal, fresh produce from local farmers, baked goods and other prepared foods to take home from various food trucks representing the diverse cuisines of the Bay Area. With a mixture of resident vendors and some rotating, the visit will always be exciting! You will also find non-food vendors and artists to satisfy those looking for some retail therapy. The Outer Sunset Farmers Market and Mercantile is more than just a place to eat and shop – it’s a cultural destination.
The market is proud to announce that they are teaming up with community partners to host its third annual Diwali event on Oct. 19. Diwali is a festival of lights originated in India thousands of years ago to celebrate the victory of Hindu god, Rama, over a demon. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Currently, millions of people in India and worldwide celebrate Diwali. This event will include special entertainment, such as demonstration of chutney making and sampling of chai, Indian crafts and textile display in ArtShip building, rangoli (colored sand painting) workshop, temporary tattoo henna booth, and live music. For more details, visit our Event page on our website.

The market also plays a role in environmental stewardship. Sunset Mercantile recently partnered with Climate Action NOW and is now the home of Biodiversity Park on Sunset Boulevard. This park serves as a space for habitat restoration and provides educational opportunities to help cultivate this urban area.
