Poetry: Nancy Jong

Winter Beach

Fluffy foam floating off the waves
Rolling up and over the sand dunes
Like tumbleweeds in the desert

Winter Holiday

Gusty winds blowing
Lights flickering on and off
On outdoor pine trees

Warm fire crackling
Lights blinking on and off
On indoor Christmas trees.

Winter Solstice Day

Quiet solitude
On winter solstice day
No rain at low altitude
To wash the dirt away

It’s the calm before chaotic Christmastime
Or the calm before the storm
Either filled with family or alone time
Whichever may be your norm

Like its other half
Summer solstice day
Time resets itself
In the opposite way
