Cruelty to Animal: 700 Block of Third Avenue, Dec. 28, 2025, 8:33 p.m.
Richmond Station officers met with a dog owner who had found a pet sitter on Rover.com to house her dog. The pet sitter took possession of the dog on Dec. 21, 2025.
On Dec. 22, 2025, the sitter texted the owner that the dog was sick and defecating blood and that she was taking the dog to the vet. The vet contacted the owner to confirm the dog was hers and to inform the owner that the dog had been brought to the hospital. The dog was already deceased when the dog was dropped off at the hospital.
The vet found dark bruising on the dog’s abdomen, which the owner stated was not there before. The sitter later texted an apology to the owner and called to apologize. That was the last contact between the sitter and the owner.
When the dog’s owner returned to San Francisco, she attempted to contact the sitter to retrieve her dog’s belongings. The owner discovered the sitter’s Rover.com account had been deleted along with all the booking information.
The owner became suspicious and Googled the sitter’s name. The Google results revealed an ABC7 news report regarding a Rover.com pet sitter in the Lake Merced area who had mistreated dogs in their care. At the time of this investigation San Francisco Animal Care and Control was closed.
Several reports were found with the sitter as suspects of similar cases.
The incident was forwarded to Animal Care and Control which will conduct the follow-up investigation.
