Possession and Sale of a Prohibited Weapon: 41st Avenue and Geary Boulevard, Jan. 18, 9:32 p.m.

SFPD Officers assigned to the Stunt Driving Response Unit (SDRU) were advised to be on the lookout for a black Chevrolet Silverado, which was involved in stunt driving in Oakland, whose occupants may be armed with a rifle.

Later that same evening, SDRU units responded to the Richmond District at about 9:20 p.m. to assist with reported stunt driving activity in the area of 32nd Avenue and Clement Street. Officers observed stunt driving activity at the intersection with pedestrians and vehicles blocking the intersection, and there appeared to be an object on fire in the intersection.

The crowd dispersed westbound and SDRU units followed onto westbound Geary Boulevard. The SDRU units observed the above-mentioned black Chevrolet Silverado parked facing westbound along the north curb of Geary and 40th Avenue. As the officers approached the vehicle, it merged onto Geary. SDRU units initiated a “high risk” traffic stop on the vehicle and four occupants were detained without incident.

Officers conducted a protective sweep of the vehicle and observed a rifle on the rear floorboard in plain sight. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found the following: rifle on rear floorboard, rifle magazine on rear floorboard, a fanny pack containing one additional rifle magazine and a third rifle magazine on the back seat. The fanny pack also contained loose unfired .40 caliber ammunition. A magazine extension for accommodating high-capacity magazines was found in the glove box. A black revolver style pellet gun was found in the front center console.

Officers also searched the occupants of the vehicle and located a loaded rifle magazine in a front pants pocket of one of the subjects. An inspection of the found rifle revealed its current configuration was a violation of California law and met the definition of an assault weapon with a short barrel.

The driver was placed under arrest and booked at San Francisco County Jail. The investigation was forwarded to the SDRU and Crime Gun Investigations Center (CGIC), which will conduct the follow-up investigation.

Forcible Entry, Burglary at Apartment House: 600 Block of 47th Avenue, Jan. 20, 6:50 a.m.

One of the victims stated he was in the back yard when he saw an unknown person standing inside the garage. The victim made eye contact with the unknown subject and the subject ran off.

The subject later returned and attempted to gain access through the front alcove door by striking it with the handle of a knife. The suspect was unable to break the glass completely. The suspect then picked up a brick and tried breaking the glass. The suspect was still unable to make entry through the window and left the area on foot.

Another witness stated he was the original 911 caller and stated he heard what sounded like gunshots, but it was the suspect hitting the glass door with the knife handle and brick. A search of the area did not reveal the suspect.
