SHARP Doles Out Grants
The Sunset Heights Association of Responsible People (SHARP) believes strongly in
supporting the community. For the past four years, SHARP has given out grants to local
organizations serving the neighborhood and the City. This year 17 groups
received grants.
Golden Gate Park Dog Field Getting $2 Million Overhaul
An off-leash dog walking area in Golden Gate Park, west of Spreckels Lake and near the
intersection of Fulton Street and 40th Avenue, is slated for a $2 million makeover
sometime this year.
L-Taraval Streetcar Stop Axed
The SF Municipal Transportation Agency’s (SFMTA) board of directors voted unanimously on Dec. 5 to remove the Muni L-Taraval streetcar stop at 35th Avenue and Taraval Street in an effort to reduce transit times from the SF Zoo to
downtown.
Law Passed to Bring Recycling Centers Back
After community groups, certain city supervisors and the mayor’s office almost drove San Francisco’s recycling centers to extinction, California state Sen. Scott Wiener took
action to restore residents’ ability to get their deposit money back.
Housing OK’d to Replace Lawton St. Gas Station
A Union-76 gas station at the corner of 42nd Avenue and Lawton Street will be
demolished and replaced by a mixed-use, four-story building with 15 residential units and ground-floor retail space.
Water for firefighting could be problematic after earthquake
More than 15 San Francisco neighborhoods could burn to the ground due to a lack of water at the SF Fire Department’s disposal after a major earthquake.

The idea of community collaboration to help seniors age at home was conceived in 2002 in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. The Boston model became a prototype for the “senior village” movement, which has spread across the country.

SFMTA to Vote on Taraval Parking, Transit Stops
Three light-rail train stops and 36 more parking spaces may be permanently removed from
Taraval Street, between 15th and 46th avenues, if the SF Municipal Transportation
Agency’s (SFMTA) board of directors approves a final plan for the L-Taraval streetcar line
at its Dec. 5 meeting.
Second Appeal Filed Against Irving Pot Club
The supervisors are considering two separate appeals filed against the Barbary Coast
Collective, a medical cannabis dispensary (MCD) proposed for the 2100 block of Irving Street.
New Captain in Control at Taraval
Yick took command of Taraval Station from Capt. Denise Flaherty, who was transferred
to an administrative position at the SF Police Academy.
Local Residents Congregate at Neighborfest Block Party
Residents who live on 32nd Avenue between Lawton and Moraga streets look
out for each other. They have a Neighborhood Watch Group, and on a recent
gorgeous day in the Sunset, they gathered for a “Neighborfest” block party.
