Similar Priorities for Two Sunset Supervisors Chosen in November
In a historic election, that took place during a pandemic and included an all-time-high number of mail-in votes, it was unclear how long it would take for results of local races to become definitive. However, District 7’s (D-7) new supervisor, Myrna Melgar, secured her victory on Nov. 4, the day after the election, while District 5 (D-5) incumbent Dean Preston retained his seat in what was a landslide victory compared to the razor-thin margin he held to win the 2019 special election.

Commuters driving southbound on 19th Avenue from Lincoln Way might want to consider other options because a traffic lane will be shut down at certain places along that busy roadway all the way down to Holloway Avenue for at least the next 27 months.
Commentary: Organizing to Win!
I met Don Bechler during the successful living wage campaign in San Francisco in the late 1990s. As a result, 20,000 workers received a raise in pay. Many joined a union. After that campaign, he recruited me to join the fight to achieve an Improved Medicare for All.

The meeting ostensibly was for SFCTA to present and discuss various possibilities for the Upper Great Highway’s future, but it was the most biased, agenda-driven presentation I have ever witnessed, and it quickly became clear that from SFCTA’s perspective – the permanent closure option – is fete accompli.
