The Adventures in Music (AIM) program, which connects the San Francisco Symphony with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), started in 1988 with 17 schools. More than 200,000 enlightened students later, AIM is still going strong and celebrating 30 years of music education partnership.

The school was named for St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, a bishop in
Shanghai who came to the United States and brought an orphanage from China.
The Ortega Branch Library will host a 10-week-long introductory session for students in
the first through third grades who want to learn Mandarin.
The free series will examine the major events, accomplishments and relationships that
shaped the participants’ lives.
While the housing crisis in the City has been a dilemma for families, it has also been an
issue for colleges and universities as well, including the University of
San Francisco (USF).
To date, the non-profit organization has given away more than two million free
books to facilities, programs and professions that serve children.
“Over the summer what they did was a three-phase construction,” Lee said, starting with
the renovation of the classrooms, then moving on to the administrative building.
The youth assisting with computer software, e-mail, Internet browsing and more give
free help with computers on Wednesdays, from 4-5 p.m., at the library, located
at 550 37th Ave.

surplus school property into new housing for teachers is moving forward, as city officials
seek ways to keep educators from leaving for less expensive towns.
