Well, we decided to rent for a few years and give San Francisco a try. We have so many friends and in our heart of hearts it still felt like home. How bad can it be? It’s actually great – really great. What a surprise.
The patriarch of a remarkable Chinese American family, James Wing Chow of San Francisco and its Richmond District, passed away peacefully on Aug. 30, 2023 at the fine old age of 102.
On Aug. 14, a group of Geary merchants and supporters staged an event using a COFFIN on the sidewalk in front of my business. I was not asked permission; the landlord was not asked permission.
The written announcement and subsequent information pages this group distributed to the very large group of media and merchants, distorted the Geary Boulevard Project plans.
The promoter of Outside Lands has so magnanimously granted us residents of the Richmond and Sunset $35,000 each in so-called Community Benefit Funds from Outside Lands profits. Researched that the Richmond itself has about 35,000 residents, so each of us get a “benefit’ of exactly ONE DOLLAR for the lost weekend of noise and air pollution, heavy traffic, etc. Can assume the Sunset residents “benefit” about the same.
We are opposed to holding the post-Outside Lands (OSL) concert in Golden Gate Park (GGP). The post-OSL concert may be fun for the privileged few who can afford the tickets, but for the residents of the Sunset and Richmond Districts, the neighbors of GGP, it’s no fun at all.
I’m in the east bay, but I enjoy visiting Ocean Beach frequently.
I’m horrified by the frequent fires there and the resulting air
pollution. Also the loose dogs in the Snowy Plover preserve.

I have reviewed the proposed “Neighborways” changes to the streets in the Outer Sunset and believe that the changes are unwarranted and unnecessary.
In his most recent essay “Why Tents Can’t Be Removed,” Supervisor Joel Engardio once more transforms fantasy into reality. Engardio brands a judge’s ruling as “nonsensical.” Why? According to Engardio this is because tents cannot be removed when no alternative shelter is available for the entire population. Let us be clear: Shelters are a temporary solution and do not suit the needs of many. What other solutions are Engardio putting into place?
Like many, I was initially skeptical about the claim that there was plenty of space for housing development in the Sunset. But you know what? I’ve changed my mind, on realizing that there is a perfectly splendid piece of land, indeed an acreage for development, which won’t require the sacrifice of any current housing, businesses, or public resources, and which could provide space for all of the City’s new required affordable housing units.
In the spirit of the successful change.org petition that got the tunnel renamed for Robin back in 2014, we’ve put up a new change.org petition to get the attention of our district’s art commission member to get this thing done.
Since the first concert isn’t projected to take place until after the 2024 Outside Lands, what’s the hurry? Why not put off the vote for a month and follow up on some of the concerns raised? People who depend on the Polo Fields cycling track for exercise and relaxation are locked out for 4-5 weeks if the post-Outside Lands concert is approved.

I enjoyed reading Julie Pitta’s commentary this morning in the Richmond Review and it felt validating as I agree with her about many things. One exception is my disagreement in the reason stated for Gordon Mar losing the election to Joel Engardio in District 4.
