Seawall Plan Near Wastewater Plant Approved

While the rest of the country debates the reality of climate change and sea levels rising, San Francisco is moving ahead with a plan to keep a sewage-water treatment plant from falling into the ocean. The Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant sits just east of what remains of the Great Highway extension between Sloat and Skyline boulevards.

Taking the Plunge

In the fall of 2022, Sachi Cunningham, Amber Cady and a few friends were enjoying a rare hot day in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset District and an impromptu cold plunge in the ocean. Cunningham, renowned for her extensive work with big wave surf photography and ocean advocacy, was pleasantly surprised at how eager her non-sea-legged friends were to join – and to keep going.

New Restroom Added at Ocean Beach

District 1 Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer and Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru were at the parking lot at Ocean Beach, across from Golden Gate Park, to showcase “quality-of-life initiatives” in the Richmond District, with the recent addition of the City’s newest Pit Stop public toilet and the successful completion of #FewerPotholes 2.0.

Putting Butts in Proper Place

On Friday, June 30, a six-month effort was launched to reduce the
number of toxic cigarette butt waste in San Francisco’s
Sunset and Richmond districts when SF supervisors Sandra Lee Fewer
and Katy Tang organized a kick-off event and beach clean-up at Ocean Beach.
