Construction has begun on a five-story mixed use building that will include 20 residential units and ground floor commercial space in the Outer Sunset District at the southeast corner of 45th Avenue and Judah Street.

This 1990 photo of the San Francisco Ice Rink/San Francisco Ice Arena on 48th Avenue was taken about a year before the building was demolished. It was located at 1557 48th Ave., between Kirkham and Lawton streets.
Oct. 12 was one of those cold, damp, autumn evenings familiar to residents of the Sunset District. But spirits were high among the 12 members of the Sunset Library Book Club who gathered to celebrate the Club’s 28th anniversary and its first in-person gathering since the pandemic.
The Parkside Branch Library, a prime example of post-war, mid-20th century modernist architecture, was nominated for landmark status by District 4 Supervisor Gordon Mar when he introduced legislation at a meeting of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Ever since I wrote about the mortgage interest rates going up from 3% to 4.5% a couple of months ago and how that translates to the amount of real estate a buyer can purchase, I have been getting many questions on how that looks now that the interest rate is around 6.5 to 7%.

The two homes and the gas station on the corner of Second Avenue and Balboa Street have all been demolished for apartment buildings. In 1951, the basement of 26 Balboa St., center, housed the Helene Hardin Theatrical Talent Agency.
