As the March 3 primary election looms large – or small, depending upon your outlook – my voting recommendations clamor (in my mind) for expression. It was once observed: “An election year is when a lot of politicians get free speech mixed up with cheap talk.”

As many of you have probably heard, I have decided not to run for re-election for supervisor of District 1. Serving on the Board of Supervisors is a wildly rewarding yet demanding job, one that requires constant focus and attention.

While most people in the U.S. don’t have a positive association with rats, in Chinese symbolism, rats are considered a sign of wealth and surplus. So with the Chinese zodiac’s 2020 being the Year of the Rat, this year is expected to be the year for prosperity and new beginnings.
It is the Year of the Rat, meaning the Chinese zodiac is starting over. A Year of the Rat is a time for new beginnings, and though cleaning one’s house is a traditional way to commemorate the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat might be a time to clean up your life and make a fresh start.

In an effort to discourage property owners from leaving storefronts empty along commercial corridors, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors recently passed legislation officially recognizing three areas of the Richmond District as Neighborhood Commercial Districts (NCD).

A lawsuit has been filed against a proposed redevelopment plan for 3333 California St. by the proponents of an alternative plan, after they lost an appeal of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ approval.
The word is out – Sandra Fewer, District 1 supervisor and outspoken champion of the Richmond District, will not seek a second term in office.
