St. Ignatius Wildcats Win CCS Section 3 Basketball Championship
San Francisco’s St. Ignatius Wildcats won the Division 3championship in the Central Coast Section basketball tournament. The team defeated the Sacred Heart Academy Fighting Irish 70-66 at Sequoia High School in Redwood City on Feb 29, 2020.
Argonne Elementary School Celebrates Its 100-Year Mark
In April 1919, the San Francisco Board of Education passed a resolution to name the first school slated for construction after the signing of the Armistice in honor of the San Franciscans who served. The thoroughly modern Argonne School was built quickly by the Board of Public Works.

Phyllis Nabhan: Renaissance Woman of the Richmond
Gaslight & Shadows Antiques, at Clement Street and 25th Avenue, is a one-of-a-kind antique store. Phyllis Nabhan, the owner since 1976, remembers when there were lots of antique dealers on Clement Street. Her store, now the only one remaining, offers an eclectic mix of items for casual shoppers to serious collectors.
School District Ignored Plans to Save GWHS Murals
New information has emerged that the San Francisco Unified School District’s (SFUSD) Board of Education broke a deal decades ago, setting the stage for the present controversy about the George Washington High School murals. A 1968 agreement indicates that a deal was reached to keep the murals in place but include plaques beneath each one explaining the history left out of the murals, which was not done.
Sunset Streets Get a Deep Cleaning from San Francisco Public Works
On Thursday, Feb. 20, San Francisco Public Works visited the Sunset District to implement SidewalkSpotlightSF, a new initiative to deep clean busy neighborhood corridors throughout the City with a focus on litter removal, steam cleaning, graffiti abatement, trash pickup and public education.

Model Boating Season Begins March 14 at GG Park’s Speckels Lake
March 14 is Opening Day, the first day of the model boating season at Spreckels Lake in Golden Gate Park. This event includes the Ragtop/Stinkpot Relay Regatta, a friendly relay competition that cleverly includes skippers and boats from the Power Squadron, R/C Sail Squadron, and Freesail Squadron. The Opening Day regatta will begin about 1 p.m. on the south side of Spreckels Lake.

Letter to the Editor – “Walking” Dogs Via Bicycles Is Dangerous
i saw a young woman riding a bike with a dog on a leash. The leash was wrapped around her wrist and the handlebars. I know of three people who had accidents doing the same thing.
