Rec. and Park joined dedicated volunteers and key environmental organizations to kick off a sand dune replanting project at Ocean Beach recently. The collaborative effort aims to restore the health of the beach’s vital dune ecosystem, enhance biodiversity, and protect native species.
Most of them were armed with pistols in holsters, but the HSI people carried heavy weaponry and wore bullet-proof vests. One had what appeared to be an assault rifle with a stand for it in the back of his vest. Another had a submachine gun hanging across his chest. Suddenly a recall of HIM is “wasteful”? How convenient.

I watched in horror as the Santa Ana winds in Southern California last month reached hurricane-strength speeds which spread fires through entire neighborhoods leaving death and destruction.
When you walk past Eighth Avenue at Irving Street you will see colorful images of what is special about the Inner Sunset – flowering gardens, the bustling farmers market, a restaurateur serving a slice of pizza, Frisbee players, children with hula hoops, Golden Gate Park, a soaring hawk and the glowing sunset. These sights and more are depicted on a new community mural created by nearly 200 volunteers.
