San Francisco movie-goers lined Clement Street on July 14, waiting their turn to file into the 4 Star Theater. While CinemaSF’s newest theater often has movie festivals, the tone of this one felt a bit different. Shelley Duvall, “one of the greatest actresses of all time,” according to the 4 Star’s website, passed away on July 11.

The live comedy show is about 90 minutes long and the audience is surprisingly a wonderful mixture of young and old (we are on the older side!) It features about six comedians with the show ending with a special guest headliner.

Skinner, an Oakland-based artist of fantasy/horror illustration, currently has an exhibit of his striking art in The Hot House Gallery. Located in the 4 Star Theater at 2200 Clement St., Skinner’s work will be on display there until March 1. It brings an underrepresented facet of art – and perhaps a new audience – to the Richmond District.
With his signature inches-high slicked back pompadour (like a cool modern-day cassowary bird), classic angular, black-rimmed Wayfarer glasses, punk rock high-top Chuck Taylor sneakers and vibrantly colored tattoos peeking out from cuffed pants and rolled up sleeves, Clam Lynch is one such person.
The 4 Star Theater, among the oldest movie houses in San Francisco, has been a cultural and entertainment treasure in the Outer Richmond and surrounding neighborhoods since 1921.
