The San Francisco Botanical Garden will re-open to visitors Monday, June 1 with modifications in place to ensure public safety and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

After Mayor London Breed ordered San Franciscans to shelter in place, Walk SF capitalized on the momentum from the resulting uptick in Golden Gate Park visitors seeking government-approved exercise.
It is just plain wrong to fence off an area of Golden Gate Park for three weeks for the benefit of a for-profit corporation even if some benefits accrue to the city.
In 1903, park commissioners built a windmill in the northwest corner to serve as a homegrown irrigation system. The Dutch Windmill was able to pump 40,000 gallons per hour, reducing reliance on the water company and turning the western end of the park into a destination for tourists and locals alike.

The heart of Golden Gate Park is the Music Concourse, an open-air plaza flanked by two state-of-the-art cultural institutions: the California Academy of Sciences and the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum. It is also the site of the beloved Japanese Tea Garden.
Many visitors and some locals delight at seeing a small herd of buffalo in Golden Gate Park. Seasoned San Franciscans and knowledgable visitors know the truth: the large, lumbering animals grazing in the enclosed meadow along John F. Kennedy Drive just west of Spreckels Lake aren’t buffalo. They are American bison.

Organizers of Golden Gate Park’s 150th anniversary celebration announced today that a parkwide birthday event on Saturday, April 4, 2020 is being rescheduled for a date later this year.
According to the website Flowerweb, certain species of orchid can survive up to 100 years. It also claims orchids have the largest variety of flowers with the number of officially documented species standing at 25,000 plus.
