On Feb. 9, Sunset District residents and visitors welcomed Lunar New Year with a day of festivities at the Outer Sunset Farmers Market and Mercantile.
Since 2020, a quiet stretch of 37th Avenue in the Sunset District has been a hub of connection and creativity. Nestled between A.P. Giannini Middle School and Sunset Boulevard, and free from residential homes or driveways, this street has transformed into a vibrant space for markets, cultural events and community collaborations.
The market is proud to announce that they are teaming up with community partners to host its second annual Diwali event on Nov 10. This event will include special entertainment such as a Kathak dance performance, activities such as rangoli workshop and henna, and delicious Diwali treats to celebrate the Festival of Lights with the community.
Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is celebrated all over the world by more than a billion people.

In response to St. Ignatius’ request to entirely cancel 3 Sunday markets and reduce another 7 Sunday markets to 1 block, I must point out the catastrophic impact this request will have on the sustainability of the Outer Sunset Farmers Market & Mercantile, as well as the livelihood of the 70-90 farmers, small businesses and organizations in attendance on a given Sunday and the community who have come to depend on the market.

Every Sunday, William Fenimore bakes more than 100 loaves of bread in his kitchen. He wakes up before the sun rises and is out the door by 8 a.m. His stand at the Outer Sunset Farmers Market sells out on a weekly basis.
