On May 22, a group of more than 80 Sunset District residents, joined by friends from the Richmond District and beyond, rallied on the front steps of City Hall before turning in 10,985 signatures to recall their district supervisor, Joel Engardio. Eighty-five percent of those signatures were gathered by volunteers, unpaid local residents who for four months disrupted their lives, learned how to canvass and went out day after day after day knocking on doors to gather signatures.
Letter to the Editor: Engardio Recall Justified
Engardio misled voters to push his agenda. He’s now misrepresenting facts again to fight his recall. We can no longer trust our Supervisor.
Letter to the Editor: Engardio Caused Damage to the Sunset
My purpose with this letter is to make people, especially voters, aware of the damage Engardio has caused to the Sunset District that he was SUPPOSED to be looking out for.
Letter to the Editor: Time to Stop the Vitriol
I understand people are unhappy with Sunset Dunes but attacking supporters verbally and on social media has gone far beyond civil discourse.
Letter to the Editor: Blocked by Engardio
On the evening of Sunday, July 13, I discovered I had been blocked by my own supervisor, Joel Engardio, on both Twitter and Facebook.
Dept. of Elections Certifies Petition to Recall Engardio
The San Francisco Department of Elections confirmed on May 29 the petition to recall District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio contained 10,523 valid signatures, above the required threshold of 9,911 signatures needed.
Commentary: Albert Chow
This recall is about restoring honest leadership and respect for community input. We deserve a supervisor who listens, engages and unites, rather than one who divides and deceives.
Letter to the Editor: Let the People Vote on the Recall of Engardio
This isn’t about politics. It’s about honesty. It’s about holding someone accountable who ran on our pain and hopes, only to turn his back once elected. We deserve better. We deserve a voice. We deserve the chance to vote on whether he still deserves to represent us.
Letter to the Editor: Engardio Should Resign
To all you paid and unpaid supporters of Engardio, if you think the recall effort is a waste of time and money, then convince Engardio to resign!
Letter to the Editor: Supporting the Recall
Supporters point to his so-called accomplishments – night markets, restoring Algebra to middle school – but these boutique wins serve only a narrow slice of District 4. What benefits everyone? Reliable transportation.
Letter to the Editor: Questions About Financial Transparency of Recall Campaign
Campaign finance laws exist for a reason: to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in our elections. But the recall campaign against Supervisor Joel Engardio has seemingly failed to follow basic financial disclosure rules – raising serious ethical and legal concerns.
Letter to the Editor: Climate Change a Factor in UGH Closure
Supervisor Engardio listens to his District 4 constituents and has been a leader in moving the Great Highway Park closer to reality. Car traffic must be diverted east because of that road closure no matter what, and a majority of San Franciscans saw that the inconvenience was an opportunity to create a huge new recreation space.
Letter to the Editor: Recalling Engardio a Wasteful Exercise
Voters who are unhappy with his decisions will have the opportunity to express their belief at the ballot box in the regularly scheduled 2026 election. This seems to me the better way to go.
Commentary: Richie Greenberg
San Franciscans have been abuzz these last several months over the controversial permanent closure of a section of the west side’s Upper Great Highway. Enough so, that a recall effort has launched against District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio for his role. But from the looks of it, average residents see little evidence a recall is being undertaken.
Commentary: Quentin L. Kopp
It’s been said that many politicians should beg for pardons instead of granting them.
