The controversy about the 90-foot-tall stadium lights at St. Ignatius College Preparatory high school in the Outer Sunset is on again, since an appeals court ruled that the City was wrong to exempt it from environmental review.
After months of debate and appeals, a deal has been made to allow the permanent installation of 90-foot-tall stadium lights at J.B. Murphy Field at Saint Ignatius College Preparatory School (SI) for nighttime games.
At some point in the future, once activity limits that were put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic are loosened, the Saint Ignatius College Preparatory School (SI) will host sporting events on its fields again. If all goes according to plan, students will be able to stay on the field later, thanks to new stadium lights.
