If that pace continues, we will surpass the fatality rate set in 2022. That’s when the highest number of deaths were recorded over a five-year period.

Between 15th and 25th avenues along Geary Boulevard are at least 34 empty storefronts, so it is no surprise that merchants still hanging on are under stress wondering if they might close as well.

Simply put, the continuous third lane down Geary, a.k.a. the Red Carpet Lane, is going to be possible by converting the current angled parking to parallel parking. This is not only going to make the bus faster, but it is also going to alleviate some congestion for people who need to drive to the Outer Richmond since they won’t get stuck behind a bus.
City Proposed Revised Parking Plan During Geary Construction
Responding to merchant backlash against a plan for replacing angled parking with parallel parking along Geary Boulevard, the City will create 17 more spaces by relocating three bike-share stations and adding angled parking on a nearby street.

On June 16, Supervisor Connie Chan delivered a press release criticizing the proposed Geary Boulevard Improvement Project. The press release expressed concerns that the project “would remove 30% of parking on the corridor,” dampening the recovery of small businesses that were hurt by the pandemic.
