This “shallow and simple minded” voter would like to point out to a recent letter writer that Joel Engardio must have been similarly “shallow and simple minded” when he loudly, publicly and actively promoted the recall of the city attorney and board of education members when he disagreed with their positions. Suddenly a recall of HIM is “wasteful”? How convenient.
The rise in recall efforts in California, particularly against Supervisor Joel Engardio, reflects a troubling trend where voters pursue recalls based on single issues. This approach wastes taxpayer money and undermines democratic processes by ignoring broad electoral decisions.

I watched in horror as the Santa Ana winds in Southern California last month reached hurricane-strength speeds which spread fires through entire neighborhoods leaving death and destruction.
When you walk past Eighth Avenue at Irving Street you will see colorful images of what is special about the Inner Sunset – flowering gardens, the bustling farmers market, a restaurateur serving a slice of pizza, Frisbee players, children with hula hoops, Golden Gate Park, a soaring hawk and the glowing sunset. These sights and more are depicted on a new community mural created by nearly 200 volunteers.

In the heart of the Sunset District, a unique experiment in community education is entering its next chapter. On a recent crisp January afternoon, eight alumni of “Problem Library” gathered to help chart a more sustainable future for this unconventional nonprofit that has been challenging traditional notions of learning since 2016.
It’s been said that many politicians should beg for pardons instead of granting them.
“Picture this,” said Leah Kalish, California Academy of Sciences’ manager of youth engagement. “You’re at Ocean Beach, digging for crabs. It’s cold, it’s 10 a.m. and your pants are wet.”
The SF Department of Elections approved a petition on Jan. 21 to recall Engardio, submitted by a group called Our Neighborhood, Our Future. That started a 120-day period to get just less than 10,000 signatures to qualify for a special election later this year.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Paul McCartney was spending time in his archives, preparing a photo exhibition of the late Linda McCartney (Eastman), his first wife.
