Our kids found this large piece of wood/platform on Ocean Beach at Santiago and used the driftwood, rope, trees and other debris washed up from the storm last night to make it into a giant play sculpture.
Ben Davis, who is responsible for bringing us the Bay Lights, is looking for more money. $11 million is needed to keep the lights on and he’s out there trying to raise it. Davis and his organization, Illuminate, put lights up all over the place, especially in Golden Gate Park.
It’s not well known but during the early 20th century dozens of neighborhoods were planned with picturesque streets, landscaping, detached houses and setbacks to convey the feeling of living in a park – rare in San Francisco.
I prepare food for a lot of vegan folks who do not consume animal products for various reasons, such as to be healthier or to help the environment or to respect animals’ rights to live. Then there are those people who cannot tolerate dairy or cheese. So, I have to come up with ingredients and options that are suitable for these diets.
As we start a new year, I’m passing the baton to Joel Engardio as the new supervisor for District 4. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to serve the Sunset and San Francisco for the past four years. The controversy about the 90-foot-tall stadium lights at St. Ignatius College Preparatory high school in the Outer Sunset is on again, since an appeals court ruled that the City was wrong to exempt it from environmental review.

For the next three years, the Upper Great Highway (UGH) between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard will remain closed to cars from noon on Fridays to 6 a.m. on Mondays, despite pushback from two westside supervisors.

Beginning Nov. 13, 2022, a series of commercial burglary incidents occurred at a number of different locations in the City of San Francisco. The burglaries followed a similar modus operandi in which the suspect would force entry through the front of the commercial business, causing property damage.
The November election is over and the final results have been certified. From now on, the eastern end of John F. Kennedy Drive in Golden Gate Park will be closed to vehicle traffic, except for deliveries to the de Young Museum, first responders and the park shuttle. The Upper Great Highway will also be closed on weekends starting at noon on Fridays, per a vote of the SF Board of Supervisors in December, until a study can be completed and final action taken.
I am strongly against your plan, promoted by then-District 4 Supervisor Gordon Mar, who was defeated in the last election exactly for stunts like this, putting the Bike Coalition over his own constituents, that will remove parking and put a commercial enterprise in a residential neighborhood.

Stephen Somerstein has had several lifetimes worth of achievements so far in his 81 years. Almost as amazing as his photos in the Smithsonian, his Emmy Award or his career as an aerospace engineer is how Somerstein can recall and recount his experiences in explicit detail.
