On Friday, Sept. 27, the last Sunset Night Market of 2024 will take place on Irving Street with a new entertainment lineup, all-ages carnival games fun zones and special durian-eating contest on the main stage, 5-10 p.m. on Irving Street from 19th to 26th avenues.
On Friday, Aug. 30, the second Sunset Night Market took over Irving Street from 19th Avenue to 26th Avenue, more than double the space of the inaugural event last September.
The long-awaited return of the Sunset Night Market has arrived, with two new Friday dates this summer and fall and an expanded footprint to bring more AAPI food, vendors, makers, community fun and local merchant highlights to the Irving Street corridor. The Sunset Night Markets will take place on Irving Street from 19th to 26th avenues from 5-10 p.m. on Aug. 30 and Sept. 27.
Irving Street between 20th and 23rd avenues was packed with people for more than five hours on Sept. 15 at the first-ever Sunset Night Market. The event was the brainchild of District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio who saw the crowds at the night market in Taipei, the home of his husband’s family, and initiated a similar event in the Sunset.
The first Sunset Night Market is coming to Irving Street, between 20th and 23rd avenues, on Friday, Sept. 15, 5-10 p.m., to test the concept presented by District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio.
Last December, I was a newly elected supervisor expected to show up at City Hall with ideas to fix things. As my husband and I walked through a Taipei night market, we looked at all the food, entertainment and art. Then we imagined all that fun in the Sunset in the middle of Irving Street.
