‘National Night Out’ Coming

by Capt. Robert Yick

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the 15th also happened to coincide with National Police Week. I want to thank all of the officers at our station for their hard work. And, please remember those who have fallen.

On Friday, May 18, the Taraval Station Community Police Advisory Board, San Francisco Safety Awareness for Everyone (SAFE) and SF Police Credit Union hosted an officer appreciation day at Taraval Station.

I want to thank everyone for donating their time and hosting a fabulous luncheon to honor the officers for their hard work. We thank you for a great day and your generosity. It is much appreciated.

With less than a week left in May, I am pleased to report that the reported incidents of burglaries and thefts from vehicles are down.

The reported incidents of robberies are slightly up from last month, as a couple of convenience stores and a clinic were targeted in early May. All three cases have been assigned to the robbery detail and officers are actively working with our SIT Team and Taraval Neighborhood Team (TNT) on possible leads.

On Aug. 7, National Night Out will be taking place throughout the country and each police district will have a venue. It is an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer.

The Taraval Station will have two venues: the Minnie and Lovie Ward Recreation Center and Playland at 43rd Avenue. We will have a barbecue, games, resource fairs and entertainment. Please contact the station if you are interested in participating or volunteering at either venue.

As a reminder, you can attend monthly Taraval Police Station community meetings every third Tuesday of the month, from 6-7 p.m., at the Taraval Police Station. There, you can hear updates and share any of your concerns.

For more information, visit the website at http://www.taraval.org or call (415) 759-3100.

Capt. Robert Yick is the commanding officer at the Taraval Police Station.
