National Night Out Coming

On July 17, officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle versus pedestrian at Sloat Boulevard and 36th Avenue.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Sloat when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing southbound. Despite the efforts of responding officers and SF Fire Department medics, the victim succumbed to his injuries at SF General Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and is assigned to our Traffic Collision Investigation Unit.

This collision is tragic, and should be a reminder for everyone to obey all traffic laws. Don’t drive faster than the posted speed limit or drive faster than you can react.

As a pedestrian, make eye contact with motorists when crossing in front of, or behind, a vehicle. Taraval officers are out in force every day conducting traffic enforcement at specific locations in the district to help prevent collisions from occurring.

With July coming to a close, our crime statistics are good. As of July 25, there were seven robberies, 13 residential burglaries and 90 thefts from vehicles.

A quick year to date comparison from 2017 to 2018: robberies and aggravated assaults are down 10 percent, residential burglaries are down 21 percent, thefts from vehicles are down 25 percent and auto thefts are down 21 percent.

We are constantly monitoring our crime data statistics and are diligently working to decrease these numbers for the rest of the year.

Mark your calendars for National Night Out, on Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., a nationwide effort to provide crime prevention efforts in neighborhoods by bringing together community residents, law enforcement officers, businesses and civic groups.

The Taraval Station is proud to participate in National Night Out and will have two venues: Playland, at 43rd Avenue and Judah Street, and the Mini and Lovie Recreation Center (650 Capital Ave.).

There will be food and games for children, information booths and live entertainment for all to enjoy. Come out and join us, meet your neighbors, bring your family and have a great time. We look forward to seeing you.
