RETIREES FIND ENJOYABLE LEARNING WHILE SOCIAL DISTANCING

Are you retired (over age 50) and interested in learning for pleasure this winter without worrying about exams or grades?  The Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning at the University of San Francisco may be the perfect match for you.

Before the pandemic, Fromm’s classes were held in a dedicated building at USF campus with multiple lecture halls. The winter classes will meet online via Zoom and run eight weeks from February 1^st until March 25. There are a wide range of 18 academic classes to select from. Some of the classes include “Cinema Magic” taught by Jan Wahl, “Global Warming”, “Music for Strings”, “Hindu Temples of India”, “Language and Prejudice”, “The Alaska Highway” and many more.  Each online class is $85 and scholarships are available.  The Zoom classes have been very popular with over 1200 students enrolled in the just completed Fall session.  

Fromm recently formed a Diversity Task Force and is reaching out to Bay Area communities to increase diversity among both the student body and faculty.  The courses at Fromm appeal to people of all races, religions, and fields of interest.  Fromm welcomes people regardless of previous academic achievement.

In addition to the regular classes, the following two brown bag presentations are scheduled in January and are free and open to the public:

• Indiana Quadra Goldberg on “Soy de Aqui, Soy de Alla” (I’m from here, I’m from there) on January 21^st at 1pm
• Letha Ch’ien on The Beautiful and – the Damned? Managing Art’s Racial Legacies on January 27^that 10am​
