Press Release: Clement Street Merchants Association Unveils New Street Banners

From the Clement Street Merchants Association:

The Clement Street Merchants Association (CSMA) is proud to announce the unveiling of the new Clement Street Banners, designed to celebrate the unique spirit and heritage of our beloved neighborhood.

The ongoing third Thursdays Clement Street Art Walk was even more special this month with the unveiling of the new Clement Street Banners. These captivating banners, meticulously crafted by local artist Risa Culbertson, beautifully encapsulate the essence of the neighborhood. The design process was an inclusive one, incorporating insights from community surveys and reaching a final consensus through a dedicated committee. They received a grant from Avenue Greenlight that supported local merchant associations.

The CSMA is committed to honoring the rich history of our neighborhood, and to that end, we are partnering with the Western Neighborhoods Project to organize a historical scavenger hunt of the area’s businesses. This exciting initiative aims to transport residents and visitors alike on a journey through time, unveiling fascinating tales of the past that have shaped our community’s identity.

For merchants who are eager to get involved but haven’t participated in the past, we have prepared an information sheet outlining the myriad ways you can participate and contribute to the flourishing artistic and historical landscape of our neighborhood.

  1. How do these possibly improve the neighborhood? The parklets already look awful along with those tacky strings of LED lights that make Clement resemble a large bordello!

How does creating more visual distractions —destined to be microplastics after they are discarded — possibly help anything?
