Great to see the Police Blotter back! For those who also want to see SFPD Richmond Station’s data visualization of reported crimes in its assigned territory (dots on street-name grid), they can attend any Captain Canning’s Monthly Community Meeting in person and sign up for the Station’s periodic newsletter which includes a recent week’s crime data (data visualization and paragraphs).
The Captain does not hold the monthly hour meeting at his station but uses various public locations in his territory in rotation. Some locations are more well-known than others but I had not been inside some of them until I attended the meetings there even though I’ve been a Richmond District resident for much of my life! One nearby meeting location is half-mile from my home; another is one mile from home.
Separately, I happened upon the live 12/12/24 hearing on SF Gov TV listed as “BOS Public Safety & Neighborhood Services.” The presenting Commander praised both SFPD Mission and Richmond Stations’ leadership for prioritizing traffic enforcement stops as their applicable counts are outstanding. She indicated that Richmond Station has two officers very productive in issuing traffic tickets. She also voiced honorable mention for the Tenderloin Station.
Sincerely,
Janice Hom, SF native

Kudos to the SFPD Richmond Station!
Today I happened upon the live 5/19/25 hearing on Street Safety and Economic Recovery being aired on SF Gov TV as “BOS Land Use & Transportation Committee.” One of the guest speakers was SFPD Captain who overseas the Traffic Enforcement function. After his remarks, Land Use & Transportation Committee Chair (Supervisor Myrna Melgar, District 7) brought up the known fact that SFPD Richmond Station wrote 50% of last year’s traffic tickets which was definitely noticed when first reported. She wanted to know specifically how that Station achieved that number. She added that the Richmond Station should continue such successful efforts but it would be good to hear specifics so other Stations could be privy. The Traffic Enforcement Captain replied he would reach out to the Richmond Station Captain.
