Police Blotter: Sunset District

Hit and Run: Multiple Locations, April 1, 4:25 p.m. 

Officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident. 

The suspect rear-ended a vehicle at Sloat Boulevard and 34th Avenue. The suspect fled the scene and was involved in another hit-and-run incident. The suspect’s vehicle lost control and hit a parked vehicle and rolled over. 

There were no reported injuries. The suspect driver was cited.

Outstanding Warrant, Trespassing: 2000 Block of Irving Street, April 2, 8:04 a.m.

An officer was on patrol in the area when he was alerted by a store employee about a trespasser. 

The suspect had been warned in the past. The officer escorted the suspect out of the business. A computer check on the suspect revealed a warrant for his arrest.  

The suspect was arrested. 

Battery: 28th Avenue and Ortega Street, April 3, 4:55 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of someone firing a gun into the air. 

A witness informed officers that there had been a loud argument followed by the sound of a gunshot. However, the officers were unable to locate any shell casings or victims. 

They did find a person walking away from the area and detained them. The person stated that a suspect hit him and that someone from the neighborhood fired a gun to scare the suspect away. 

The victim appeared to have an altered mental state and was uncooperative.

Stolen Vehicle, Outstanding Warrants: 2400 Block of Great Highway, April 7, 12:09 p.m.

The victim told officers about a vehicle that had been stolen. 

The victim was able to track it to the location. When he arrived, he saw two suspects inside the rear seat of the vehicle. The two suspects were detained. 

After further investigation, both suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and outstanding warrants.

Robbery: 2400 Block of Great Highway, April 10, 4:36 p.m.

The victim saw a suspect walking away with his neighbor’s package. He confronted the suspect and a scuffle ensued. 

The victim was able to retrieve the package. At that point, another suspect punched the victim. A neighbor intervened and separated everyone, after which the suspects walked away.

Assault: 1900 Block of 18th Avenue, April 16, 2:59 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a road rage incident. 

The victim told officers that he was directing traffic for his construction site when a vehicle drove toward him at a high rate of speed. 

The suspect – the driver of the vehicle – was upset that he had to stop. The suspect started yelling at the victim and attempted to drive around him, contacting the victim. 

The suspect also hit a motorcycle and fled the scene.

No Driver’s License, Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia: Vicente Street and 37th Avenue, April 17, 12:53 a.m.

Officers on patrol observed a vehicle driving at a slow rate of speed, abruptly stopping and failing to maintain its lane of traffic. They conducted a traffic stop. 

The driver told officers his license had expired and he was on his phone. Officers saw in plain view a glass pipe that is normally used to ingest illegal narcotics. 

After further investigation, the driver was cited.

Driving While Under the Influence, Traffic Violation: 4100 Block of Noriega Street, April 22, 1:49 a.m.

Officers responded to check on a person who was slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle parked on the sidewalk with the brake lights illuminated. 

Officers arrived on the scene and located the driver. The driver had all the obvious signs of intoxication. The driver admitted to having been driving. 

Officers administered a sobriety test to the driver, which he failed. The driver was arrested.

Outstanding Warrant: 3900 Block of Judah Street, April 27, 4:38 p.m.

The victim told officers he had given free food to the suspect, who appeared to be unhoused. 

The suspect returned and asked for more food. The victim told the suspect he could not give out more free food. The suspect became angry, grabbed a knife from a table and started yelling at the victim. 

The suspect was detained. A computer check revealed a warrant for his arrest. The suspect was arrested.

Robbery: Irving Street and 20th Avenue, April 30, 1:29 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery by a known suspect. 

The victim told officers the suspect had a verbal altercation earlier. 

As he was going home, the suspect charged toward him with a knife. The victim was afraid and dropped his e-scooter and other property and ran. 

The suspect picked up the property and fled with it. 

Officers located the suspect, and after further investigation, he was arrested.

    Robbery: Great Highway Between Lincoln and Sloat. April 12. Noon

    Wealthy tech bros and a guy named Joel stole a public right of way.

    Motive: unknown at this point.

    Caution: suspects are at large and could strike again
