Letter to the Editor: Time to Stop the Vitriol

Editor:

As a resident of the Outer Sunset, I find the vicious actions and comments of the Recall Engardio campaign shocking.

I understand people are unhappy with Sunset Dunes but attacking supporters verbally and on social media has gone far beyond civil discourse.

I have been screamed at, called names, and even had photo of my dog peeing on the sidewalk posted on a telephone pole outside my apartment building. A tenant in my building who is aware of my support has hung recall posters on my apartment door and left them outside it, more than once.

I realize change is hard for people, but cities are dynamic. They grow and change with the times and the needs of the population.

I’m tired of the arguments about Engardio lying and “sneaking” the vote on the ballot without his constituents knowledge. There were surveys and multiple meetings to discuss the closure. I’m tired of the claims about increased of traffic on residential streets, despite official traffic counting by engineers.

I have had enough of your vicious remarks, lies and harassment. I keep hearing and reading comments from people who weren’t going to vote for the recall or supporting it changing their minds and will vote against the recall because of the recall campaigners behavior.

Stop being bullies! We can agree to disagree.

Kim Northrop

  1. surveys and multiple meetings to discuss the closure. That’s funny. Maybe multiple meetings among the chosen few in on all the deals and big money behind the closure.

  2. LOL. What a load of nonsense! Everyone else is tired or the lied, manipulation and deceit that Westside Traitor Joel pulled to steal the Great Highway and turn it into this lousy park that barely anyone uses on the weekdays and only really come out on the rare occasion the sun comes out on the weekends. Then it is actually complete chaos with bicyclist speeding around kids playing, people walking their dogs, etc.. It won’t be long until someone is killed. Also, construction on 19th Ave will be beginning soon for the next 2 years. Joel doesn’t care about any of this! Whether the Great Highway ever returns or not is besides the point, Engardio needs to go!

    • Thank you for proving Ms. Northrop’s point. The only “chaos” in our neighborhood I see is the small but loud group of people who are unable to civilly disagree and instead spend seemingly all their time calling spewing invective at their neighbors like a “load of nonsense” and “traitor” and other insults, both online and in person. That’s not at all like the friendly community I have known for all my decades in the Sunset and you are making it worse.

      • Disenfranchisement is not friendly, and a supervisor who has fomented such frustration clearly neither engaged nor supported his constituents well. Let’s work together to get thoughtful representation here in the Sunset. Please: Vote Yes on A to Recall Engardio.

  3. Please know that change works best when communities are involved through thoughtful deliberation. When this does not occur, constituents are frustrated and angered. While you have my sincere apologies for any mistreatment you may have received surrounding this issue, my vote remains a resounding Yes on A to Recall Engardio. I hope you will, too.

  4. I apologize in advance if you find me a bully for asking a simple question, but you state in your letter that there “..were surveys and multiple meetings to discuss the closure.” Others have said the same; however, not one single person has been able to produce one single piece of evidence to support this claim. Where are the announcements for and invitations to these meetings? Where are the minutes? Where are the surveys? Where are the public comments? Surely all of this, if true, was on social media somewhere at some time, and as we all know, once something enters the realm of cyberspace, it is there forever. Yet I have done multiple searches, using every reasonable search term to find this stuff, and I have come up with nothing. If you can show me at least one piece of credible evidence that the public at large was made fully aware of Prop K before it was put on the ballot, I will use this platform to denounce my condemnation of Engardio. I anxiously await your reply.
