Above: This month, the span between the “then” and “now” photos is only five years. The former home of the Ashley and McMullen Funeral Home at 4200 Geary Blvd., seen here in 2020, was demolished to make way for a new housing project.

  1. The old mortuary was quite drab. I like the new building and its mural which can be see looking east along Geary. I think increasing the amount of limited affordable housing in the district is so welcome. I think they should have an open house and invite the community to view inside the building/space!

  2. I love the brick facade at the ground level. I WISH ‘modern’ architecture would stop employing a ‘pop of color’ powder coated metal in every single new construction building. It represented modernity in the early 2000’s, but already reads as dated and redundant.
