Khalid Zakzouk, ‘The Sunset’s Banksy’

Neighborhood passersby began to take notice and started conversations with him. Children in the neighborhood tried to figure out his Pac-Man style mazes. Sunset District merchants started inviting him to create works on the sidewalks at their storefronts, including Sam and Ghada Kaleh, owners of Lucca Food Deli and Wine Shop on Irving Street and 20th Avenue (established in 1927).

Longtime Laguna Honda Hospital Residents Hang on Under Cloud of Relocation

When 45-year-old Felipe Martinez suffered a massive stroke that left him unable to stand, walk, swallow or handle any of the activities of daily living, the one thing he was certain of was that Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center wasn’t for him. Now in his early 60s and after 17 years of intensive physical therapy as a resident patient there, he’s regained some of those skills and his feelings about the hospital have changed. “I don’t know what I will do if they close Laguna Honda down.”

I prepare food for a lot of vegan folks who do not consume animal products for various reasons, such as to be healthier or to help the environment or to respect animals’ rights to live. Then there are those people who cannot tolerate dairy or cheese. So, I have to come up with ingredients and options that are suitable for these diets.

As we start a new year, I’m passing the baton to Joel Engardio as the new supervisor for District 4. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to serve the Sunset and San Francisco for the past four years. We have spent four years achieving real material wins for working people, changing the trajectory of the Sunset and challenging what is considered possible for this seat, this District and this City.
