The west side of San Francisco is primed for a Republican or conservative independent candidate to win a seat on the Board of Supervisors. Recent elections results coupled with analysts’ data maps overlaying how voters answered key ballot measures by district borders paint a conclusive trend: Should a viable Republican candidate throw their name in the hat for the 2026 and 2028 citywide and district elections, they would have a good chance at winning.
I’m humbled by the views of residents who opposed the measure. Many said they didn’t feel heard in the process, and I take their concerns to heart.
Richard Corriea, retired SFPD commander and former captain at the Richmond Station, turns a petition signed by 80 Sunset District residents over to the SF Department of Elections to start a recall process against District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio. Those calling for the ouster of the supervisor are upset over the recent passage of Proposition K, the measure Engardio introduced to close the Upper Great Highway to vehicle traffic. The supervisor has seven days to respond. If the language of the petition is approved, a signature-gathering drive would begin. Close to 10,000 valid signatures will have to be garnered from District 4 residents over the course of three months for a special election to be called. Although most media coverage of San Francisco’s upcoming elections has focused on big money donors like Ron Conway and others, a sampling of who is giving smaller donations of less than $500 each also tells a story.
