As I ride through the Richmond District on my ebike, it has become clear to me that our neighborhood and many others in San Francisco are under attack by criminals. Property crime, such as smash and grabs, auto burglaries, catalytic converter theft, shoplifting, and physical attacks on senior citizens, appears to have escalated in recent years.
On Thursday, June 22, at approximately 2:39 a.m., San Francisco police officers from Richmond Station were dispatched to a residence on the 700 block of 31st Avenue for a report of an aggravated assault in progress.

An officer arrived on scene and made contact with an 84-year-old male victim in the doorway of the home. During the interaction, the 37-year-old suspect, who was armed with a knife, advanced toward the officer and the victim from inside the home and an officer involved shooting occurred.

After some verbal sparring between the mayor and some supervisors, the Board of Supervisors approved a $26.8 million bailout to the SFPD to pay more overtime for police officers.
On Friday March 24, 2023, at approximately 5:52 p.m., San Francisco Police officers assigned to Richmond Station responded to the 2400 block of Lake Street for a report of a robbery with a gun.
The suspect, identified as 53-year-old male Darron Price of San Francisco, was booked into San Francisco County Jail for the felony charges of involuntary manslaughter (192(b) PC), manufacturing narcotics (11379.6(a) H&S), and two counts of child endangerment (273 a(a) PC).
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, at approximately 7:20 p.m. an unknown male entered a Jewish Synagogue located on the 2600 block of Balboa Street, shot a firearm several times then fled the scene. There were no reports of injury or property damage. Officers seized expended casings that were fired, which is being investigated as possible blanks.

During the same period of time, five victims were found murdered in the Ocean Beach/Golden Gate Park area. As a result of a new investigation, it is believed that Warren Andrews may be the sixth victim of the “Doodler.” On April 27, 1975, Andrews was a victim of an assault at Lands End. Andrews was found unconscious and never regained consciousness dying several weeks later. All six victims are believed to be gay Caucasian males.
A pretext stop is when an officer stops a person for a low-level violation, but uses the stop as an excuse to detain and search the person, looking for evidence of a more serious offense. Multiple studies, including a recent analysis of data by the San Francisco Chronicle, show that pretext stops disproportionately effect people of color.
Beginning Nov. 13, 2022, a series of commercial burglary incidents occurred at a number of different locations in the City of San Francisco. The burglaries followed a similar modus operandi in which the suspect would force entry through the front of the commercial business, causing property damage.
