Resisting, Delaying or Obstructing Peace Officers Duties: Great Highway and Fulton Street, May 16, 10:15 p.m.
A Richmond Station sergeant was assisting U.S. Park Police and U.S. Park Rangers with dispersing a large crowd at Ocean Beach. The parking lot of Ocean Beach is closed during evening hours and loitering and parking is illegal. There have also been incidents of vandalism and violence with large crowds congregating in the parking lot and beach area after hours.
As the crowd was dispersing, the sergeant observed three males that appeared to be under the age of 21 with open alcoholic beverages. The sergeant exited his patrol vehicle and detained the three individuals. The suspects were in possession of multiple opened Coors Light beer cans and an open bottle of Gilbey’s Vodka. Two of the subjects were 18 and one was 17. Due to the 17 year old’s age, the sergeant told him to call his parents or a responsible adult and respond to their location. The 17 year old stood up and immediately started to run/flee. The sergeant was able to grab him and detain him. The minor’s father was later contacted. The father responded to the beach where the 17 year old was cited and released to him. One 18 year old was identified, cited, and released. The other 18 year old was unable to be identified and was booked at Richmond Station pending identification.
Aggravated Assault With a Gun: 700 Block of Seventh Avenue, May 20, 10:05 a.m.
Richmond Station officers responded to the Safeway at Seventh Avenue and Cabrillo Street in regard to a person with a gun. SFPD Dispatch advised that a security guard assigned to Safeway had confronted an individual he recognized from previous theft-related incidents. When the security guard confronted the subject, the subject brandished a firearm tucked in his waistband. The subject then struck the security guard with a closed fist to his ribs. Fortunately, the guard’s vest absorbed the strike and he did not sustain any injuries.
The subject with the gun then fled the store toward Fulton Street. Multiple SFPD units and a SFPD drone searched the area for the suspect with negative results. The incident was documented and forwarded to the SFPD Burglary Unit.
