DRAMA WITH FRIENDS

Drama with Friends, a project of the Community Living Campaign, invites you to an evening of captivating short plays by contemporary playwrights brought to you in the comfort of your own home. Now in our sixth year of presenting theatre on Zoom, our troupe of older adults and directors have performed more than 300 short plays since our first production during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our performances on the third Monday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m., are free, and are followed with a discussion with the playwrights. FAR OUT GALLERY

The Solstice Celebration at Far Out Gallery is on June 21 from noon-6 p.m. We are celebrating summer’s arrival with a full day of free music at our gallery at 3004 Taraval St. Roy Zheng, a pianist and accordionist will start the proceedings at noon, followed by pianist Susan Chen at 1 p.m.. Tubist Zachariah Spellman will pair with pianist Karen Hutchinson at 2 p.m., followed by Wendy Loomis at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. we will feature classical guitarist David Rosewood, and Peter Munks will conclude the festivities at 5 p.m. with songs of summer. FELTON TECH SQUAD

Felton’s Tech Squad provides free basic tech support for older adults and people with disabilities in the Richmond District. Ask questions regarding how to navigate your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Friday, June 12 from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Richmond Branch Library (351 Ninth Ave.). Drop-in for one-on-one session in English. We are also seeking volunteers who speak English or/Cantonese.

“Workshop: Bike Fix It:” Keep your wheels rolling—free bike repairs available! Bring your bicycle for a free tune-up and basic repairs provided by BikeMobile. Expert bike mechanics will assess your bike and fix common issues like: Flat tires, brake and gear adjustments, chain and tire replacements.While your bike is being fixed, learn tips and tricks to keep it in top shape!

“Read Together, Silent Book Club:” Bring any book (fiction or nonfiction) for a period of silent reading followed by a discussion when you share what you are reading with others. The club meets every other Wednesday. Wednesdays, June 10 and 24, 3-5 p.m. 

“Workshop: Soundbath with AstraLogik:” AstraLogik, a Queer Filipina musical duo, blends chill-folk-R&B-soul and explores sound as a healing tool through immersive, in- person hybrid soundbaths rooted in decolonization and mental health. Their soundbath practice, which evolved from a personal therapeutic method during the pandemic, now aims to create spaces for resilience and self-discovery.  Space limited, reservation required: 415-355-5638. Wednesday, June 10, 6-7 p.m.

“Tutorial: Drop-In Tech Support for Older Adults with the Felton Institute Tech Squad:” Felton’s Tech Squad provides free basic tech support for older adults and people with disabilities. Get help with your phone or tablet, searching the internet, setting up an email account and other basic computer tasks. Friday, June 12, 1:30 -3 p.m.

“Workshop: Mandarin for Beginners:” This beginner friendly class explores basic vocabulary, everyday phrases, simple conversations and Chinese culture through interactive activities.

This program is provided by a partnership with the Education Division of the Taipei Economic, St. Anne Chinese School and the Chinese Center of San Francisco Public Library. “Presentation: Black Voices in American Opera with Cole Thomason-Redus of the San Francisco Opera:” Learn about some of the leading Black pioneers of opera in this 90-minute survey presentation. Cole Thomason-Redus of the San Francisco Opera explores the careers and recordings of black musical greats such as H.T. Burleigh and Marian Anderson, midcentury superstars such as Leontyne Price, and modern-day masters of the American opera stage. In addition to celebrating these iconic voices, we will discuss the institutional and social barriers that have often existed within the art form, and the corrective and equity-based efforts being taken today as San Francisco Opera paves the way for a new century of opera in America. This is the first in a series of SF Opera presentations this summer at Richmond Branch. On Sunday, July 19 at 2 p.m., we will host the program Contemporary Black Voices in American Opera. On Sunday, Aug. 9, we will host a special Fall Season Preview of the Opera’s upcoming season, also beginning at 2 p.m.

The 4 Star Theater will be playing free family-friendly movies on weekend morning in 2026! The films selected will cover a wide range from family classics to newer hits straight from theaters. FREE WALKING GROUPS FOR SENIORS

Join the friendly San Francisco 55+ Neighborhood Walks. These free walks are leisurely, not vigorous and accommodating for seniors with various walking abilities. To sign up, go to meetup.com/sf-55-neighborhood-walking-groups. You can see who else is walking. You are also welcome if you just show up in person. The walks meet weekly, except when it rains and sometimes on holidays – check the Meetup link for the latest updates. The walks vary from one hour to two hours, and you can leave at any time.

• Tuesday walks start at noon at Angelina’s Cafe, 6000 California St., at 22nd Avenue in the Richmond District and goes to Lands End and back.

• Friday walks start at 10 a.m. in front of the Forest Hill Club House at 391 Magellan St. and tours that beautiful neighborhood.

• Sunday walks start at 1 p.m. at Java Beach by the Zoo at 2650 Sloat Blvd. in the Outer Sunset and goes along Sunset Dunes from Sloat Boulevard to Judah Street and back. Dogs are allowed at the Ocean Beach walk.

• Golden Gate Park Walk for 55+ Seniors: We meet every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pool of Enchantment next to the front of the de Young Museum. The route varies each week. Come get fine exercise and meet friendly people. Elaine D Won, 97. Nov. 13, 1928-May 29, 2026. Also known as Tuey Lin Dea, Elaine passed peacefully at Pacific Heights Transitional Center. She is survived by her 2 daughters Til and Delores Won. A private service will be held at a later date.

SAN FRANCISCO ZOO FREE DAYS

San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is kicking off the summer by offering free admission to children, ages 11 and under, on weekdays, throughout the month of June. The offer starts on June 1 and runs through June 30. The maximum number of kids is five per paying adult. If tickets are purchased through the Zoo’s website, please note there is a $1 processing fee per ticket (including the free kid’s ticket). There is no fee if the tickets are purchased in person at the Zoo’s on-site ticket window. Stand-Up Comedy at the Balboa Theatre

“Community Performance: San Francisco Symphony:” Wednesday, June 24, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Delight in a community concert with San Francisco Symphony’s musicians, violinist Jessie Fellows and violist Katie Kadarauch. The Symphony’s Community Chamber Concert program brings small ensembles to community spaces across San Francisco. These free concerts are an opportunity to get to know SF Symphony musicians and see them perform in an intimate setting. Jessie Fellows is Assistant Principal Second Violin with the San Francisco Symphony. Prior to her appointment, she performed frequently with the Saint Louis Symphony and New York Philharmonic. Born into a musical family, she began her studies at the age of three under the direction of her mother in Tulsa, Okla. Katie Kadarauch joined the San Francisco Symphony in 2007 as Assistant Principal Viola. A native of the Bay Area, she was Principal Viola of the SF Symphony Youth Orchestra and earned a bachelor’s degree and graduate diploma from the New England Conservatory. She also studied at the Colburn School, during which time she performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and recorded film scores. She plays on a Peter Rombouts viola ca.1720, on loan from the SF Symphony.

SUNSET MERCANTILE’S EMPORIUM

Sunset Mercantile’s first brick-and-mortar location is an incubating platform for local merchants and makers. Located in the heart of the Inner Sunset, Sunset Mercantile’s Emporium is an extension of its popular outdoor events. It serves as a platform for small vendors and makers to showcase and sell their unique, often handmade, products. You can find an array of items, from an in-store plant shop, to handmade bags, vintage fashion and grab-and-go artisanal snacks. The store also hosts workshops and seasonal events for the community such as the Inner Sunset Art Walk, Holiday Light Stroll and Noise Pop’s Summer of Music. The Emporium would like to extend an invitation to local merchants and makers to be a part of this special new retail space. VOLUNTEER WITH THE RICHMOND SENIOR CENTER

There are many ways to volunteer with seniors in the Richmond. Regular volunteer work can include: serving as a senior companion supporter, either by chatting with an isolated senior over the phone or by taking a short walk. Friendly callers can take maybe 15 minutes each time, and a short walk can be 30 minutes, depending on the preferences of our seniors. On June 6, they will host a “One Hard Thing” event. From 9:30 a.m. to noon, staff and volunteers to help with small tasks in seniors’ homes – things can be like changing light bulbs, organizing household items or gardening.
