On Wed. Sept. 2 Slavic Voice 4 Ukraine and the United Nations Association of the USA San Francisco Chapter Youth Advocacy Committee will host a screening of 2000 Meters to Andriivka, an acclaimed documentary that follows Ukrainian soldiers as they fight to reclaim the small village of Andriivka in eastern Ukraine. The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at 401 Van Ness Ave. and is open to members of the public.
The conference reminded us that this work is happening everywhere, across languages and communities, often without
recognition. Even as our work continues to grow beyond San Francisco, the Richmond District remains at
the center of it.
Over winter break, we had the opportunity to share our story on a radio channel called “Good Evening, We are From Ukraine” hosted by Ethno FM Radio in Sacramento. While the interview was recorded outside the city, the conversation was deeply rooted in San Francisco and the Richmond District, where our work began.
Four years into a war the world has learned to ignore, choosing to write is choosing to remember and insisting that these stories remain part of our shared history.
Slavic Voice 4 Ukraine, a youth-led journalism and cultural storytelling organization founded by two San Francisco high schoolers, continues to grow its presence across the City. What began as a small effort to share youth perspectives on culture, identity and the war in Ukraine has become a larger movement connecting students across the world.
Slavic Voice 4 Ukraine, a youth-run organization founded by two high schoolers from San Francisco, recently attended the Ukraine Action Summit. This summit is a national gathering in Washington, D.C. that brings together advocates, scholars, organizers and community leaders who are shaping the global conversation around Ukraine.
In a world where distance, politics and disinformation threaten to divide, Slavic Voice exists to rebuild connection through journalism, dialogue, and civic action. We believe that Slavic youth, no matter where they live or where they come from, deserve to feel seen, heard and part of a shared future.
