Taraval Street has always matched the energy from the people who live around it – bakeries and coffee counters open early, and this stretch of Parkside keeps a slower pace than much of the City. Among the longtime neighborhood favorites, enters the newest arrival: Welcome Coffee & Goods, which found its home at 425 Taraval St., near 14th Avenue. The shop is both a place to order a coffee and a place to dig through the racks for vintage clothing. As the sign outside states, “Come for the coffee, stay for the goods.”

A coffee corner is tucked in the back of the shop and racks of clothes line the walls of the space. Welcome has an array of menswear such as: graphic tees, barn jackets and vintage denim. Right when you walk in, you are greeted by a front case full of vintage jewelry and accessories.

“We knew we wanted something simple, something that meant more than just coffee or vintage, a word big enough to express that,” co-owners Trityn and Steffan Ross stated. “Once we landed on ‘welcome,’ we just knew it was right.”

The duo said they wanted a space where anyone could feel right at home – whether coming in for a latte or to sift through vintage.

“Both are about appreciating things with character and history. Neither one requires you to be an expert.”

The coffee counter feels more like a friend’s coffee corner in their apartment, and the racks of perfectly curated vintage feel more like a best friend’s closet that you just can’t wait to sift through. The coffee itself is roasted right here in the City, sourced from Excelsior Coffee.

The homey coffee shop sits on the stretch of Taraval Street that has recently seen many independent shops; and the couple said they are happy to be another reason to spend more time on the block.

“There is a real energy on Taraval right now, and it’s exciting to be part of the street where people are choosing to shop small.”

The duo hope that the space will turn into a place that seamlessly folds into your weekly routine.

“We want to feel like we’ve always been here,” they said.

A year from now, Welcome hopes that the vintage side grows into something that people seek out and remember by name.

The couple expressed gratitude to everyone who has already popped by to say ‘hello.’ Welcome to the neighborhood, Welcome.
